Chartering Anniversary Celebrated

We celebrated our one year Chartering Anniversary at Bailey's Pub and Grill. Brothers and their dates were having a good time chatting and playing darts, when the power went out for the entire mall and surrounding blocks. Did this stop us from having a good time? No! Bailey's kept serving beers and stuck it out.

Clothing Drive and Founder's Day Photos

We've recently had two successful events. The first was our Founder's Day sports night with the Washington Capitals. The Caps defeated the Atlanta Thrashers 6 to 3! View more picture of the hockey game. And we also had a successful clothing drive.

We donated approximately 300 articles of clothing to the Catholic Charities New York Avenue Shelter in Washington DC. Clothing articles included winter coats, casual and dress shoes, suits, dress shirts and ties, sweaters, pants and slacks, and other winter clothing. In addition to donating gently used articles, several alumni brothers provided new clothing articles including underwear, white and black socks, and t-shirts. Special thanks to Bob O'Toole for providing a large box van for transportation to the New York Avenue Shelter and Stephen Prue of the Catholic Charities organization. This was a tremendous success for both the Delta Sigma Phi Washington DC Alumni Association and the Catholic Charities New York Avenue Shelter. View more clothing drive pictures.

Officer elections have been tabled until our next business meeting, currently slated for January. Our current executive board will serve an interim term until then. If you would like to run for one of the four elected positions (President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer) or be considered for any of the appointed positions (Membership, Service, Social, and Programs) please reply to this email and let me know.

Our working event schedule for 2008 is below. Our plan is to have four quarterly business meetings and at least 5 other unique events. We haven't selected specific events yet, but we have narrowed down the categories. If you have suggestions for specific events please share them. We are hoping this schedule will match up with your individual schedules and allow for a successful 2008.

Convention 2007

Convention 2007 has come and gone. The Brotherhood tackled some important issues In Convention Assembled. We added another undergraduate member to the Grand Council as well as voted on some changes to our ritual (as a Brother who attended for details). On a special note our Alumni Association received the Hugh "Cap" Ryan award for the most Outstanding Local Alumni Association!

We had a fun volunteer event this past Saturday. Some Delta Sig Brothers and their spouses helped out the ARC of Norther Virginia at their Summertime Picnic.

New Year, New Way to Pay

It's 2007 and the technology has finally arrived. You can now pay your dues or make a donation with a credit card over the Internet via PayPal!

Head on over to the dues page and check it out.

Also, Chartering is just around the corner in March, but the paperwork isn't finalized yet. If you haven't become a fully-fledged dues-paying member, you still have time! Now of course you can pay at any time during the year, but if you join by the end of the month (January 31st 2007) you'll be a Charter Member and your name will be on the charter!

And if you would like to always be a member in good standing, make sure you use the subscription button for recurring payments.

May Meeting

The Washington, D.C. Delta Sigma Phi alumni association will be holding its next business meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 18th. The meeting will be held in downtown Washington, near the Dupont Circle (Red line) and Farragut West (Blue/Orange) metro locations. Brother Scott Kimpel (who is also on the Grand Council) has graciously offered to host the meeting at his office (Scott's contact information, address and additional information on metro and parking is provided below). For security purposes, we will need a list of those planning on attending to provide to Scott's office in advance of the event. If you are able to attend the meeting, please send your name to Brian Vincent at president@dcdeltasig.org by Tuesday, May 16th. Below is a brief agenda of topics that will be discussed during our meeting
